One takeaway concept of particular interest is that: “Imagination, the interplay between logic and intuition, and the ability to formulate a hypothetical world view are vital to discovery” especially in context with the item Brown cites just after, which helps explain why we may be more creative or free to express sometimes outside-the-lines ideas more than we might in other situations: “Aaron O’Connell pointed out we behave differently when we’re in an elevator by ourselves vs. when someone else is with us. We all know we get a lot crazier when nobody else is an elevator with us. But while we act differently when no one is watching, increasingly we’re subject to being watched much more of the time. To get creatively crazy, it’s important to figure out ways to avoid whatever “cameras” thwart your wild mental (and other types of) abandon.”

Jan Vermieren is recognized around the world AND by LinkedIn as one of the premier experts, and he is hosting another free Webinar Tuesday, February 22. Please double-check as the Webinar schedule features some in English and some in Dutch–the English seems a bit easier to follow in Boise. Times posted are European times–so this Tuesday’s is at 1:30 p.m., MST, on February 22, 2011, but please double check.

I was so impressed with his seminar last year that I bought his book three minutes into it and feature it on the Resources page of my own Website as it’s such a great book even for professionals who are new to LinkedIn. He has more-updated info on his site. I highly recommend this even to people who are fairly familiar with and effective with LinkedIn. The calendar link follows and here’s the description of the free Webinar:

<snip directly from Jan Vermeiren>
Many people still wonder what to do with LinkedIn. That’s why I wrote How to REALLY use LinkedIn and publish updates (at no cost) about it on a regular basis. Since the information in the book is so important and especially in these times where many people are looking for a new job, new customers, new employees and ways to do their job faster, I gladly share my knowledge through web seminars, also at no cost. <end snip>

You can access this Web.

While he claims that he typically won’t include books from his list from the previous year, he did include five that were on the 2009 list as they’ve been substantively revised or updated. Schaffer states that “2011 should see a continuation of this as well as an emphasis on metrics, business to business (B2B) social media marketing, the continued growth of location-based services, and a growing interest and investment into mobile social media integration. Not to mention the ever-growing importance of social strategy.”

His site indicates he’s been featured in The Wall Street Journal as well as a number of other well-known media, so it may be worth checking out for some new reads! http://windmillnetworking.com/blog/----escape_autolink_uri:a3bc73abc8264ab1bcedadcd39aa4032----

Best wishes for a fabulously prosperous and happy 2011!
